Ore valorization, selective exploitation, process optimization, all require local estimations of the qualities and quantities not only for the valuable element but also for the other elements which can affect the process. That means suitable methods of resource and reserve estimates using multivariate, linear or non-linear geostatistics including simulations methods, depending on the type of ore and the expected process.

These methods must be performed either by experts in geostatistics or by geologists who have got strong geostatistics skills. In that way, Geovariances were very helpful and efficient, developing every new application with the best suitable method to the ore considered and training the user to ensure he can apply it on similar issues.

The main results are the improvement of the data analysis, the optimization of drill hole spacing for exploration or grade control, a better estimation of the required qualities of ore and of course the ownership of geostatistical tools by the geologists in charge of resource and reserve estimates.

In particular, the application of the S2RM module, developed by Geovariances and CESMAT in partnership with ERAMET, has resulted in an improved performance of the mining selectivity.”
