First results from the Horizon 2020 European Research Project about Real Time Mining

May 2, 2016

Geovariances has tested several geostatistical methodologies and found that Kriging with Variance of Measurement Errors provides a promising way to integrate data from varying sources in an industrial context.

Geovariances is part of European Union Horizon 2020 R&D Consortium on Real-Time Mining and is specifically involved in a Work Package dealing with the rapid and sequential updating of resource models.

Geovariances has been actively contributing since last December to the elaboration of a GTM (ground truth model) for the Neves-Corvo orebody (one of the test cases for the project) upon which the simulation of sequential updating of the resource estimate based on the integration of pre-ex information and production data will be performed.

That phase has involved testing a series of geostatistical methodologies to select the one most adapted for the integration of data of varying sources in an industrial context. KVME (Kriging with Variance of Measurement Errors) is showing very promising signs in that regard.

Geovariances consultant involved in the project Christianne Mariz travelled to Lisboa on April 18-20 to attend the yearly meeting of the steering committee for the project and met with our different project partners (TU Delft WP project leader, TU Freiberg, Geovia etc.) to help establish our work plan for the next 12 months.
