Geostatistical Methodology for Waste Optimization of Contaminated Premises

CEA ATUE (enriched uranium workshops) in Cadarache: characterization of civil engineering structures of a nuclear installation before decommissioning

This workshop facility has been used for several decades for the recycling of uranium contained in different non-irradiated scraps. Decontamination required the radiological assessment of residual activity levels of the building structures, the objective being to better categorize the wastes in order to minimize their quantity.

In order to locate the surface contamination measurements, polygons have been digitized to model the walls. Surface and subsurface estimations have been performed on the walls and on the ground by combining non-destructive measurements and laboratory results on concrete samples.
