Conditional simulation and volume uncertainty in Isatis.neo | Training course

Learn how to use Isatis.neo’s conditional simulation to assess the uncertainty in volume production scenarios.

Objectives

By attending this course, you will learn to:

  • Assess the volumetric uncertainty through the signed distance.
  • Identify areas of higher uncertainty and higher probability.
  • Define geological orebody boundaries precisely.
  • Assess the mine planning risks related to geological volume uncertainty
  • Compare the range of volumes derived from simulations with the one from the geological model (wireframe).

Outlines

  • Half of the course is devoted to methodological presentations, the second half to practical exercises to deepen the understanding of concepts. Focus is on illustrations and practical contribution of the covered concepts.
  • Computer exercises with Isatis.neo Mining Edition.
  • Course material and temporary software license provided.

Who should attend

Professionals who want to improve their skills in Isatis.neo and gain confidence to solve mining problems using conditional simulations.

Course content

1| THE CONCEPT OF VOLUME UNCERTAINTY

  • What is volumetric uncertainty, and when should it be assessed?
  • What is signed distance?

2| HANDS-ON SIMULATION IN ISATIS.NEO

  • Conditional simulation: a review of the fundamental aspects.
  • Data pre-processing, including Gaussian transformation and declustering.
  • Variographical analysis in the Gaussian space.
  • Running Turning Bands Simulations
    Simulation validation.
  • Post-processing and result interpretation: mean, variance, quantiles, and above-cutoff probabilities, 90% confidence interval, upscaling into production periods, volume risk assessment for mine planning.

Prerequisites

It is recommended that participants already have geostatistical knowledge.
